They got the beat

The reissue of a new wave classic owes its look and feel to a Georgia-based team. The 30th Anniversary Edition of The Go-Go’s Beauty And The Beat can claim a Georgia Music contributor, Lee Valentine Smith, as its art director. Smith wrote the liner notes, conducted and edited new interviews and provided archival material and graphic concepts. Macon-born graphic artist and musician Keith Bennett was in charge of design. Bringing everything full circle, photographer George DuBose, who shot the original cover photos, also photographed the first B-52’s album. Bennett, designer of the B’s iconic logo, is married to singer Cindy Wilson. The two-disc set, which was released May 17, is available on LP, CD and in two different digital versions.
