Atlanta promoter Tim Sweetwood, who previously bought talent for Masquerade, founded Shaky Knees in 2013 to bring an indie music-focused festival experience to the city. With lineups that have included The Lumineers, Band of Horses, Jim James, The 1975, Florence + The Machine and My Morning Jacket (whose song “Steam Engine” inspired the festival name), Sweethood has succeeded in building an independently-owned event that has garnered national attention, attracted more than 40,000 fans last year and spawned a second music festival, Shaky Beats, that debuted in 2016 and featured primarily electronic music. Shaky Beats returns in 2017 on May 5-7, the weekend before Shaky Knees. For more on Sweetwood and Shaky Knees, check out this 2015 Creative Loafing profile.
