Patronize an Independent Music Store on Record Store Day 4/16/2016

418457105412When we moved into a new home six months ago, we banished the television to the basement and made the turntable the center of the living room. And you know what? I’ve listened to more music than I have in years. I’ve been listening to old vinyl and buying new records. Last week, I picked up the vinyl copy of Dap-Dippin’ with Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, which I’ve had on CD for years. However, it was on sale at the merch table during the Sharon Jones concert at Savannah Music Festival so I bought a copy and jumped in line with fans to have it autographed. When I got it home and dropped the needle on the record, it was nothing short of magical. In the last few weeks, I’ve been listening to Alabama Shakes’ Sound and Color, Courtney Barnett’s Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit, Freakwater’s Scheherazade, Kurt Vile’s b’lieve i’m goin down and Bowie’s final album, Blackstar. I paid for every single one of them and didn’t download or stream a darn thing. And I swear, my soul is happier for it.
