In addition to starring in it, Janelle Monáe boasts two new songs on the soundtrack to the highly anticipated motion picture Hidden Figures.
Set for release December 9th on Columbia Records, the soundtrack features “Isn’t This the World,” a new solo song from Monae, as well as “Jalapeno,” a collaboration with Pharrell Williams. For his part, Williams figures heavily on the rest of the soundtrack; the gospel-flavored lead single, “Crave,” is his, and he’s also represented on collaborations with Lalah Hathaway, Kim Burrell and Alicia Keys. Williams and Monáe attended a special listening party for the soundtrack at Atlanta’s Means Street Studio on November 16th, also attended by Usher, Ludacris, Jasmine Guy and others.
Monáe portrays aerospace engineer Mary Jackson in the biographical film, one of three key African-American mathematicians and space scientists who helped propel NASA during the space race of the 1960s. Filmed in Atlanta, Hidden Figures opens in selected cities (including Atlanta) on Christmas Day, and nationwide in early January.
