Gov. Nathan Deal and Wife Attend Smith & Wesley Release Show

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and First Lady Sandra Deal, Atlanta City Council President Caesar Mitchell and Georgia State Senator Jeff Mullis (R, 53rd district) were among the attendees at the July 27th CD release show from North Georgia-based country music act Smith & Wesley.

Smith & Wesley are helmed by brothers Scott (lead vocals, acoustic guitar) and Todd Smith (acoustic guitar, harmonica, harmony vocals), both of whom also wrote – either individually or together – most of the songs on the new, debut CD, Choices & Chances. Formerly known as the Brody Johnson Band, the brothers changed the name to honor their father, Wes Smith, who recently passed away.

The rest of the musicians in Smith & Wesley also have strong family and personal connections. Keyboardist Greg Gordy attended high school with Scott and Todd; drummer Brad Thompson is a longtime friend; electric guitarist Steve and Josh Pettyjohn are a father-son team, and bass guitarist Dee Callihan is part of the Pettyjohn family by marriage.

Atlanta blues guitarist Tinsley Ellis and onetime Stillwater guitarist Bobby Golden were among the prominent local musicians also attending Smith & Wesley’s CD release show at Smith’s Olde Bar.
