Athens band Futurebirds will release Hotel Parties, the follow-up to their 2013 album Baba Yaga, on September 25th. Available on vinyl LP and CD, it’s the group’s first release on the Easy Sound Recording Company label.
Says Futurebirds guitarist Thomas Johnson, “For all the common or unique themes, the motif of the record is duality – the give and take of life; dreams vs. reality; loving vs. longing; wanting to grab life by the horns vs. needing to chill…out; sleep vs. sanity. I could go on forever. With a touring band, the home vs. road theme comes to the forefront daily.”
Guitarist Carter King adds that “we feel we’ve taken the sound a step further on this one, for sure. It’s less washy and ethereal than Baba Yaga, a little more to the point, both sonically and lyrically.”
The band will be touring throughout the fall, kicking off with a hometown show on release day at the Georgia Theatre. They’ll wind back around to the Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta on Nov. 27th, with many dates far and wide in between.
