For nearly 30 years, Eat More Records was one of metro Atlanta music fans most loved record stores. The first location opened in a flea market in 1979, while the last incarnation of the shop closed in early 2008, just missing the current vinyl renaissance by a few years.
On Friday, Aug. 29th, five days past his 64th birthday, Eat More owner Craig Freireich passed away at Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital after long suffering from health problems brought on by his severe obesity. (He didn’t name it Eat More for nothing!) Though not as well known as other Georgia record stores such as Criminal Records, Wax N’ Facts and Wuxtry, Eat More – whose locations were in the northeast Atlanta suburbs – will always hold a special place in the hearts of its loyal customers and employees, and Freireich will be greatly missed.
