Cole Swindell Pays Tribute to His Late Father

'You Should Be Here' is a moving song of loss

Cole Swindell, who was born in Glenville, Ga.,  spent a short time selling merchandise for his buddy, Luke Bryan, as  he pursued his own music career. Shortly after landing his own deal with Warner Music Nashville, his father, William Swindell unexpectedly passed away and did not have the opportunity to see his son quickly rise to the top of the charts. “You Should Be Here,” Cole’s latest single co-writtenwith Ashley Gorley, is a tribute to the elder Swindell and conveys the sense of loss that any child who has lost a parent feels. The video, directed by Michael Monaco, opens with actual video of Cole on the phone with his dad, letting him know about the Warner deal, features highlights of the past two years of his career and Cole visiting his father’s gravesite.

Cole is working on his second album and will be back in his home state during the holidays for a special acoustic set at Dillinger’s in Americus on Dec. 27.
