Every week these days, it seems there’s another country music awards show. And every time, Georgia natives rake in the trophies. Things could be worse, right?
The latest one, the American Country Countdown Awards, occurred Sunday night, May 1st, and Leesburg’s Luke Bryan was the big winner, walking away with the awards for both Artist of the Year and Male Artist of the Year.
The night’s only other multiple winner was another Georgia son: Cedartown’s Sam Hunt, who won Breakthrough Male Artist of the Year, and Top Digital Album for the million-selling Montevallo. Valdosta’s Thomas Rhett chalked up a win for Song of the Year, for “Die a Happy Man” (which he also performed during the broadcast), while Florida Georgia Line won for Group/Duo of the Year. The latter also performed during the show, giving the television debut of their new single “H.O.L.Y.”
As for the aforementioned Luke Bryan, his Georgia fans should note that he’ll be headlining two nights at Atlanta’s Lakewood Amphitheatre on May 20th and 21st.
