The Columbus State University Schwob School of Music presents the 18th Annual Guitar Symposium & Competition on Feb. 25 and 26 at the RiverCenter for the Performing Arts in downtown Columbus. The weekend event brings together guitarists from around the world for guest artists concerts, master classes, lectures and an international competition with divisions for middle school through professional levels. The performers in 2017 include:
SoloDuo, featuring Matteo Mela and Lorenzo Micheli, about whom Washington Post wrote: “…the duo’s playing was nothing less than rapturous – profound and unforgettable musicianship of the highest order.”
Bandini Chiacchiaretta, featuring the internationally recognized award-winning duo of Giampaolo Bandini and Cesare Chiacchiaretta, perform music of their native Argentina on guitar and bandoneon.
Andzrej Mokry, the Polish-born recording and touring artist who is also a professor of guitar at Martin-Luther University of Halle Wittenberg in German, performs solo recitals, chamber music with the soloists of the Gewandhaus-ORchestra Leipzig and with various symphony orchestras including the Orchestra “Klassika” St. Petersburg and the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Katowice.
Dr. Andrew Zohn has performed and taught in some of the most prestigious music festivals across the globe including the Sevilla Guitar Festival in Spain, Guitar Festival Changsha and Shenyang Festival in China and Musica Ravenna in Italy, among others. Zohn has many original compositions and transcriptions published and has recorded for the Clear Note and Centaur Records labels. Since 1999, Dr. Zohn has served on the faculty of the Schwob School of Music.
